Daily Devotion of Psalm 4

Daily Nugget:
As King David experienced, most of our problems are caused by or from interactions with others. David’s antagonists twisted around the leader’s accomplishments and made them look shameful.

The good David did was not relevant to them. Their main concern was things that were not important, and lying was not beneath them to get what they wanted (which sounds too much like many of our politicians today).
“O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah.” Psalm 4:2

As vocal and vicious as those opposing his ideas and victories were, David had a way to battle their accusations and attacks. The king knew, no matter what distress he was facing, none was anything God could not defeat, and the way to summon God’s help was prayer.

It was clear to the leader that He was set apart for God’s use. The Lord’s help and mercy would allow him to accomplish God’s will. 

As devious and deceptive as the enemy’s attacks may have been, David knew that God’s working on his behalf would be a sight for onlookers. He understood that one should not be fearful of any assault. People would look at God’s intervention with awe and amazement when all was said and done. God certainly would get the glory for protecting His own.
“Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.”Psalm 4:4

Today is not much different than David’s day. The righteous will often face opposition from the godless crowd. The defense is always to go to God in prayer. He will protect and deliver His own. All that a believer must do is ask!
“Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.” James 4:2

Psalm 4
1 To the chief Musician on Neginoth, A Psalm of David. Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.
2 O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah.
3 But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him.
4 Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.
5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD.
6 ¶ There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.
7 Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.
8 I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
